Synopsis of Hello, I Must Be Going

Written by TK

Felicity is re-dying Noel's hair to get the streaks out. They're trying to figure out a legal reason for his annulment. Elena comes in and suggests impotence. Noel's against it at first, but gets convinced. As he's practicing saying that he's impotent, the girls' new British roommate Molly shows up.

Julie makes her own video for Sean about what she did over the summer. It's clear that she's lying about how great her summer was and how wonderful it was spending time with her birth family.

Felicity and Ben wake up together in Ben's bed. Felicity tells Ben about a dream she had. Ben gets a phone call from his mom and gets upset. He tells Felicity it's crap about his dad and he doesn't want to talk about it. She says when he does want to talk about it, he can. He gets up, gets dressed, and kisses her goodbye, saying he's going to play basketball with Sean.

Noel and Natalie are sitting in a judge's chambers. Noel is explaining how he's impotent. Natalie tells the judge that Noel is the best lover she ever had and walks out. The judge tells Noel to come back when they get their stories straight.

Sean and Ben are playing basketball. Sean is playing a bit rough. Julie comes by. Sean asks her how that video confessional is going. She says great, she's done. Sean is surprised. He got her a camera for a week and she'd done in a day? Ben asks Sean if they're still playing. They start playing again and Ben slams Sean into a wall and then elbows him in the nose. Sean stomps off holding his nose saying it's probably broken. Ben walks away without apologizing. Julie runs after Ben and asks him what's up. Ben says his mother called to say his father was missing. It's been four days, and his mother wants him to file a missing persons report. Julie says she wants to help Ben like Ben helped her freshman year when she was looking for her mom.

Sean is filming Molly. Molly jokes that she's taking a class about orgasms and Sean doesn't get that she's joking right away. Molly asks him what happened to his nose.

Felicity and Elena are helping Molly out in the kitchen. She's making a British specialty called bubbles and squeak for dinner. Felicity is worried about Ben. Molly comments that she hopes Ben doesn't hit Felicity like he hit Sean. Felicity is concerned that she didn't know about this. Then Julie comes home and says she was hanging out with Ben. She tells Felicity about what's going on and now Felicity is even more upset that Ben opened up to Julie and not her. Julie says not to take it personally, that she and Ben having this "thing," like how he was there for her freshman year when she was looking for her mom. This doesn't make Felicity feel any better.

Felicity talks to Ben. She asks him if he's filed the police report. He says he hasn't and tells her not to judge him. She tries to be supportive, but he just tells her he needs some space. She says fine and walks out.

Noel finds out from Javier that Natalie has an inheritance that she can only get if she's married. He confronts Natalie, and she says it's true, but that's not why she married him. She says she gets $250,000, and her husband of one year gets $100,000. Noel is blown away by the sum.

Meghan is tending to Sean's nose. He jokes that now would be the perfect time to get a nose job. She agrees with him, remembering a kid in high school who got a nose job and made up some lie that he fell. Now Sean could get a nose job and wouldn't have to make up a lie. Sean tells Meghan that he was kidding, but now he thinks she doesn't like his nose. She thinks Sean is being a little over-sensitive about his nose and walks out.

Ben is shooting hoops and Julie walks up. She asks if he's filed a police report or called hospitals. He says no. She offers to help. He says no thanks. She tells him he can't do nothing, she knows, her dad died this summer. Ben says he knows that was hard for her, but sometimes it's just better not to know your dad at all.

Sean continues to interview Molly. She says her mom is a psychic, and this time she's not kidding. Her mother predicted she'd find love in New York.

Noel is hanging out with the gang asking their advice on whether or not he should stay married for the money. They can't believe he's actually considering staying married to Natalie, but at the same time they realize that that's a lot of money that he could use for tuition since he blew his tuition money last summer. Noel asks Ben, who has been very quiet, his opinion. Ben comes out of his reverie and says he has to get out of here. He gets up and leaves. Felicity goes after him.

Felicity follows Ben down the street calling out to him. He hears her but doesn't slow down. She finally catches him and insists that he talk to her. He says this isn't about her. She insists that it is. She says if she were going through something really hard and asked for space like he did, she would hope that Ben would give her some space, but then get her to talk about it. She gave him some space, and now she thinks he should talk about it. He tells her how his dad did the same thing when Ben was in 7th grade, and how he accompanied his mom to hospitals and police stations. His dad turned up a few days later totally unapologetic. He had just been drunk. And that's not the worst things he's done over the years. This time, Ben hopes he's dead. Ben leaves Felicity dumfounded standing on the sidewalk.

In the kitchen, Molly tells Felicity that her mother told her that Ben is sorry for yelling at Felicity and he will apologize. Felicity is surprised, but says thanks.

Meghan tells Noel that he's too much of a loser to stay married to Natalie and that the fast life will burn him out and put him in an insane asylum. Sean comes over and asks Noel if his nose is okay. Meghan gets fed up with Sean and pulls him aside into her room.

Elena tells Felicity and Molly in the kitchen that she thinks Julie hasn't dealt with her dad's death yet, and this whole thing with Ben is bringing it to the surface. Felicity says she's more worried about Ben right now.

Sean and Meghan are arguing about his nose. She says that what she said earlier was actually a compliment. They scream at each other.

Natalie comes over and finds Felicity in the living room with Noel. Felicity leaves to give them some space to talk.

Felicity goes into the kitchen and tells Elena and Molly that she's going to get ice cream.

In the living room, Natalie tells Noel that she read his four-year plan and she doesn't mind that he's a geek. She gives him a present. It's a RAM chip.

Felicity goes out into the hall and the elevator opens and it's Ben. He apologizes and tells her that he knows he shouldn't take his bad mood out on her. She says she's just worried about him. He understands.

Meghan and Sean are still fighting about his nose. He says his Blumberg nose is perfect. They scream at each other.

Noel tells Natalie they just can't stay married. She is disappointed and gets up to leave the living room.

Meghan and Sean are still screaming at each other. He says maybe he should leave. Meghan says he should leave. He storms out.

Natalie and Sean storm by Ben and Felicity who are kissing in the hallway. They look up. The elevator opens and Julie comes out. She tells Ben she wants to talk to him alone. Ben says talking in front of Felicity is fine. Julie tells Ben that she filed a missing persons report for him, and his father is at St. Vincent's hospital with alcohol poisoning. Both Felicity and Ben start to protest immediately. Julie tells Felicity she's not talking to her. Ben says Julie had no right to do that. Felicity tells Julie not to project her feelings of loss when it comes to her father onto Ben. Julie yells at Felicity that she doesn't know what she's talking about. Felicity says that just because she's never lost a parent doesn't mean that she doesn't understand what Julie is going through. Julie admits that when she got tested this summer to see if she was a match for her biological father, it turned out that she actually was a match. But then she lied about it. And then her father died. So Ben can do whatever he wants. Julie walks away, leaving Felicity and Ben dumfounded. (There have been a lot of dumfounded people this episode.)

Ben and Felicity are at the hospital. They're talking about how bad they feel for Julie. The doctor comes out and tells Ben that he can see his father now. Ben walks in, pulls up a chair to his dad's bed, and takes his dad's hand. His dad sees Ben and turns away, tears in his eyes. Ben cries at his dad's bedside.

Meghan comes to Sean's apartment and admits that she had a nose job when she was a kid. The story about the kid who lied that he fell when he actually had a nose job? That was her. They make up.

Noel and Natalie are back in the judge's chambers asking for an annulment. Noel says that now the grounds are that he entered into the marriage under false pretenses because Natalie was just in it to get her inheritance. The judge says that's definitely grounds. Natalie says she's donating her inheritance to a charity to prove that she married Noel for love, not money. She walks out. The judge tells Noel that if he's going to try this again, he should find a different judge.

Noel goes to Natalie's apartment and says he's going to call her bluff. He thinks she's doing this to convince him to stay married so she can still end up getting the money. She says she's not bluffing, she really wants to stay married. He ends up agreeing to give their relationship a chance, but that they have to get an annulment so they can start fresh. She says she loves him enough to set him free. They kiss.

Felicity and Ben are walking home. Ben's dad is going to fly home tomorrow. Ben's mom is relieved. Ben admits he's relieved too.

When Ben and Felicity get to the apartment they find Julie's room empty. Molly says she left. They find a video tape she left behind. The whole gang watches the tape. It's a sentimental goodbye fulls of thanks and apology from Julie. She's leaving New York because she made such a mess of things this past summer.
